3 Weeks Old

Emily has finally regained her birth weight! As of this past Thursday, she was weighing 6 lbs 12.3 oz. We do not have to go back to the doctor now until her 2 month visit. During this week, Emily went to see Jackson play basketball, played with Kaitlyn, went on her first trip to the mall, and even went to mom's work for a quick visit. What a busy week for Emmy!

Moo, Baa, La La La!

I have been spending some time reading to Emmy every night this week. Her favorite book so far is Moo, Baa, La La La! by Sandra Boynton. You may be wondering how I know it is her favorite. Well that is easy...I like it, so that means she does, too! It has rhyming, farm animals and animal sounds in it. I am sure it will be one of her favorites for a long time.

Spoiled Baby?

Today, for the first time, Emmy began to scream when I put her down. What happened when I picked her up? She stopped almost immediately! I don't want her to get use to being held all the time, so I did the hardest thing I have ever had to do...I put her in her Boppy Seat and let her cry herself to sleep. :( I felt so horrible sitting there watching her cry...especially since her little shirt said what she was trying to tell me herself, "Hug Me!" Luckily she did not cry for long and I felt better. Poor baby!

2 Week Doctor Visit

We had our 2 week doctor visit this week. The doctor said everything looks good and that we have a healthy little girl! She is in the 10th percentile for her weight and the 50th percentile for her length and head size. Emily weighed 6 lbs 9.5 oz at her appointment, which is only .5 oz from her birth weight. Since she had not 'officially' gotten back up to 6 lbs 10 oz, we have to go back tomorrow for another weight check. I think they just want an excuse to see her again because she is so cute! :)

2 Weeks Old

Emily is 2 weeks old today! Here are some pictures taken from this past week.

Emmy loves her puppies

One of the main things we worried about during my pregnancy was how Toby and Lilly would adjust when Emily was born. Toby has always been a "momma's boy" and Lilly loves to sit on our shoulders and tends to be wary of new people. Boy were we surprised when we came home from the hospital to see that both dogs were very protective of their new sister! Lilly loves to be near Emily and had never once shown any signs of jealousy. Toby is a little more standoffish, but gets very upset and whines when Emmy is crying. He looks at us as if to say, "What are you doing to her? Make her feel better!" Overall, we have been very pleased with the transition and look forward to the day when Emily gives them a run for their money!

1 Week Old

I can't believe Emily is already 1 week old!!! She is already growing and changing so much. Emily spent her 1 week old birthday in the arms of several visitors including her Memaw, Great Memaw, cousin Debi, Cappy (grandpa), Jennifer and Mason. She is not in the least being spoiled. :)

The Nursery

Emily's nursery is finally finished! We could not have completed her room without the help of several people very special to us. Emmy's bedding was made especially for her, the room was painted with love by 3 special friends, the mobile was hung and designed by another special friend...Emily does not yet know how blessed she is to have so many people who love her.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Today is Jonathan's birthday! Emily wore a cupcake outfit for Daddy and gave him a birthday card. Daddy's birthday was a busy day...well, as busy as things can get when you are pretty much staying around the house. This morning we went to the doctor for another jaundice check up and it looks like Emily's jaundice level is still elevated. We will have to go back again tomorrow. When we got home, Emmy had her first bath! She did NOT like being bathed and gave such pitiful cries and whimpers the entire time. Even though Emily was clearly not enjoying herself, we couldn't help but think how cute she looked while she pouted.

Relaxing at home

It is so nice to be at home with Emily. It is amazing how different life is now. I can't image life without our little angel. So far, Emily is a quiet baby that sleeps all the time. She enjoys her swing and being cuddled by anyone who will hold her. :) Here are some pictures of Emily hanging out at home.

Coming Home!!!

On Tuesday evening we were discharged from the hospital with the understanding that we would have to follow up with our pediatrician the next day to have Emmy's jaundice tested again. We were so thankful that she was able to come home at the same time as me. Emily's coming home outfit was a gift from her Memaw. Isn't she adorable????

Emily Renee is finally here!

On Sunday, January 6 at 1:44 am, our sweet little angel was born. She weighed 6 lbs 10 oz and was 19.75" long with a head full of beautiful light brown hair. Emily was born at just under 37 weeks but is doing very well and has made great strides.

Emily had a rough start due to very high levels of jaundice and having to sunbathe under the special heat lamps and blankets for 24 hours. I think it was harder on mommy because I could only hold her once every 3 hours for 15 minutes at a time to feed her. I hated leaving her in the nursery so Jonathan stayed with her as much as he could. She is such a fighter though. The doctor expected her to be in the hospital until Thursday but Emily had other plans. Emily has blown away all expectations and is being discharged today...the original discharge day! Her jaundice levels are still elevated but we are out of the 'dangerous' category and just need to follow up with her peditrician tomorrow. Over the next week she will be closely monitored but I am confident that this sweet angel will continue to thrive and amaze everyone.

Right now we are waiting for Emily to finish her 'tan' so we can take her home. We are so excited to begin this new part of our lives. It is amazing how quickly you can love and care for someone. Here are some pictures of Emmy for you to enjoy. Check back later for more updates and pictures!
